More Than 500 Different Flights Daily Went to Various Destinations in the South Asia-Middle East Market This Week

South Asia can be quite a big market for point-to-point and transit passengers. Additionally, over 687,000 seats are available during the week from November 26th to December 2nd according to the 2018 OAG data.

South Asia-Middle East: a summary

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Afghanistan all have nonstop flights that were available in the week studied. India is by far the busiest with 1,840 flights per week, followed by Pakistan with 702. When compared to the equivalent week in 2019, three have more flights than they did: the Maldives (+39%), Bangladesh (+38%), and Pakistan (+2%). The Maldives has benefited from the arrival of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, Kuwait Airways (October 2022), the expansion of flydubai as well as more routes. Looking ahead, flydubai will begin Dubai-Gan, its second Maldives route in February. Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Syria are responsible for the most flights in South Asia. With over 1,000 flights connecting 11 Middle East countries to North Africa and the Gulf in 2017, Saudi Arabia is the most influential with 463 flights. Followed by UAE (1,663), Qatar (342), Oman (271), and Kuwait (214). Then there’s Iraq which had 22 flights during 2017. Lebanon (which has nonstop flights to Mumbai) had 3. Israel only has 3 scheduled flights between Tel Aviv and India

The best airlines

As one of the 37 airlines with nonstop flights this week, Fits Air has made its North American debut. This Sri Lankan carrier has been newly added to the list of international users since it began scheduled operations earlier in the year. Ranked by seat counts and available seat kilometer space, IndiGo is number one, according to these measures.

Top 10 routes

According to OneWorldStats.com, there are 284 nonstop South Asia-Middle East routes this week. It’s not surprising that the longest flight of all: Mumbai-Dubai, is also one of the most popular. It’s one of seven routes in the top ten airliner lanes involving India and one more route involving the UAE in the top ten. The section with the biggest growth is Male-Dubai, which increased nearly 75% this week!
