Tap Air Portugal Flew More Than 500,000 Passengers Between Brazil and Europe This Summer

In the summer of 2022, TAP Air Portugal registered half a million customers flying between Brazil and Europe, sparking a solid recovery after two years of COVID-19 disruptions.

Traffic levels at TAP Air Portugal return to pre-pandemic levels

The airline said it flew 97% of its customers between Brazil and Europe between January and September 2022. The Portuguese flag carrier has flown over one million customers between the Portugal-Brazil market so far this year. Taking advantage of TAP Air’s unique route network, which allows easy and quick connections between flights at our Lisbon hub, Ricardo Dinis, TAP Air’s country manager for the UK & Ireland, said the airline is pleased to serve customers as their first choice for flights between Europe and Brazil. TAP Air Portugal operates 73 weekly flights between Portugal and Brazil. As of November 2022, the carrier has 12 unique routes to Brazil: ten from Lisbon International Airport and two from Porto International Airport. TAP’s popular Brazilian destinations have generated high load factors, which stand at 15% less than before the pandemic levels and are expected to return to 2019 levels in 2023. In September 2022, TAP operated 1,318 flights from Brazil to Europe. TAP flew 97% of all customers in 2019 between Brazil and Europe On two routes, TAP still offers fewer flights and seats than in 2019. These are Lisbon-Brasília and Porto-São Paulo (both with one fewer flight).

These routes were served by planes

Using Cirium data, TAP Air Portugal operates flights from Portugal to Brazil with three types of aircraft. TAP Air deploys its Airbus A321neo (LR) fleet on two routes: Lisbon-Belém and Lisbon-Natal. These two Brazilian cities are close enough to Europe that TAP is able to deploy its narrowbody fleet. TAP Air uses its Airbus A330-200 and A330-900 aircraft for the remaining routes. TAP has ten Airbus A321neo (LR)s. Each plane has 171 seats in a three-class configuration, with 125 economy seats, 30 economy plus seats, and 16 business seats. Besides having three A330-200s that can hold 269 passengers (244 in economy and 25 in business), TAP has 19 A330-900s (one of the largest fleets in the world). These planes seat 298 passengers (168 in economy, 96 in economy plus, and 34 in business).
